A simple & easy art practice activity

"Draw. Draw. Draw. Everyone draw, every day!"

In her Incomplete Manifesto about early childhood art experiences, Dr. Margaret Brooks emphasizes how important it is to "revisit drawings," "make collections" and "everyone draw, every day!"

An Incomplete Manifesto, by Dr. Margaret Brooks.

Building upon your cARTie @ home blog activities, we offer you a simple invitation to make little booklets for your child(ren) to do exactly this.

Here's how:

  1. Grab a piece of computer paper (or whatever you have on hand).
  2. Fold your paper in half length-wise. Then fold each half into half again, length-wise.
  3. Unfolded, fold your paper in half width-wise. Then fold each half into half again, width-wise.
  4. Tear (or cut) your paper apart into eight (8) two-section pieces. No need to be perfect!
  5. Stack your eight pieces.
  6. Staple along the middle crease and fold into your book formation.
  7. Repeat as needed with your child(ren).

Step-by-step visual instructions.

Once you and your child(ren) are equipped with DIY Art Booklets, go ahead and get started looking around your house and surroundings for art inspiration.

You might consider... trying out different art making tools, sketching one thing in all sorts of different ways, drawing and then drawing again!

We can't wait to hear about your experiences! If you post on social media, tag us @CTcARTie!
